State Government launches next generation helicopters

On Tuesday 12 August 2025, the State Government officially launched the next generation RAC Rescue helicopters.

The three Leonardo AW139 helicopters replace the Bell 412EP RAC Rescue helicopters, which had been in service with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services since 2003.

These state-of-the-art helicopters reach a top speed of 309 kilometres per hour and feature some of the most advanced search and rescue technology and aeromedical equipment.
