Every hour of every day - WA’s free 24/7 emergency rescue helicopters

When the unthinkable happens, the RAC Rescue helicopters are there. Ready to respond around the clock, we deliver search and rescue, critical care and emergency support to Western Australia — at no cost to patients.

Whether it’s on land or at sea, our goal is simple: to bring emergency care to you when it’s needed most. The RAC Rescue helicopters are funded by the State Government, managed by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and sponsored by RAC.

Ocean Response
When emergencies happen in places no road can reach, the RAC Rescue helicopter becomes a lifeline in the sky.

From injured hikers on Bluff Knoll to stranded boaters battling rough seas offshore, the crew responds to some of Western Australia’s most challenging rescue situations. In remote terrain and unpredictable conditions, every second matters.

Operated by the Aircrew Office, the helicopter is equipped with advanced FLIR thermal imaging technology, allowing crews to locate and track patients from the air, even in low visibility. Once found, a highly trained Critical Care Paramedic can be hoisted directly to the scene to provide urgent medical care. Whether over rugged mountain ranges, dense bushland or open ocean, the RAC Rescue crew is ready to respond.
